Huawei Gaming Console Rumored to Take on PlayStation, Xbox—Would it Be Good Enough?

Huawei is surrounded by a growing rumor suggesting the company is planning to do a gaming console that would compete against industry giants, PlayStation and Xbox. Gaming is a massive industry that is different from the consumer technology that Huawei was used to and has developed over the years.

The popular Chinese technology manufacturer, Huawei, would be venturing into the gaming community and industry as it plans to release a gaming laptop this year and would be the first release of the company in gaming.

Huawei is popular for its reliable and top-notch smart devices that were initially favored by fans and enthusiasts among its competitors, Apple‘s iPhone, and Samsung‘s Galaxy Android devices. However, the company’s growth in the country was stopped because of the Entity List ban by the US government that initially suspected them of Chinese spies.

Huawei Gaming Console Rumors

According to Chinese social media Weibo’s @Tomato Prince, as reported by Gizmo China, there would be a soon to be released gaming console that would come from Huawei, and the leaker initially dubbed it as the “MateStation.”

However, the leaker said that the venture would come after Huawei’s involvement in creating a new lineup of gaming laptops that starts with its MateBook X Pro, the pure performance PC notebook that would soon release. There are no specs that come with the gaming console, as Huawei is still in the US Ban that was extended until May 2021.

The Huawei Game Console, also known as the “MateStation,” would be competing directly with Sony and Microsoft, the top gaming console manufacturers of the world, whose products are leaders in the industry. Moreover, its latest consoles, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X are still the top demands in the market as well.

The Huawei logo is display during CES 2018 at the Las Vegas Convention Center on January 9, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. CES, the world’s largest annual consumer technology trade show, runs through January 12 and features about 3,900 exhibitors showing off their latest products and services to more than 170,000 attendees.

According to Reuters, Huawei is already challenging the US Federal Communications Commission to prove the national threat designation that was labeled upon them during the initial stages of the ban. This shows Huawei’s eagerness to have the ban lifted and soon be able to utilize American technology with their gadgets and devices.

Initially, their smartphone heavily relies on Qualcomm for processors and Google’s Android for the operating systems. Moreover, its MateBook is also reliant on Intel for computer processors, and Microsoft’s Windows OS (which is the only available US tech for Huawei).

However, if the Huawei Gaming Console (MateStation) would push through, and wants to compete against the PlayStation and Xbox, it would need AMD’s Zen 2 processor for speed and performance. This is not yet mentioning the various game developers who would match its titles to Huawei’s systems.
