Google Fiber: Nashville, Tennessee and Huntsville, Alabama to Get 2 Gbps from the ‘Fastest Connection Yet’

Back in September, Google Fiber tested its 2 Gbps internet service in two cities and had planned to launch it all across the United States in 2021.

Now, Google Fiber announced that it will test its new internet speed on two selected cities: in Nashville, Tennessee and Huntsville, Alabama.

Upgraded service

The 2 Gbps or 2 Gig tier is available in Nashville and Huntsville. The new plan will cost its subscriber $100 a month and it will include a 6 Multi-Gig Router for WiFi, a tri-band Mesh Extender and all the equipment will be installed by a professional, as reported by Engadget.

According to a statement released by Google Fiber, the 2 Gig is now ready for users with advanced smart homes and latest devices that requires fast and stable internet connection.

Google Fiber also stated that the subscriber can download an entire move in less than 2 minutes and download a 10GB game in just 43 seconds. This internet connection is perfect for gamers because even heavy games that are around 150GB will take only 11 minutes to download.

Aside from fast downloads and streaming, the 2 Gbps plan will also have fast system updates, so you will not need to sit around and wait for your devices to finish. It is perfect for those who frequently do video conferencing, those who work from home and those with smart homes.

The router of the 2 Gbps plan is made in a way that it will let multiple people share the connection without slowing it down. But if you wish to have all of the speed for yourself, the router can supports 4×4 MU-MIMO WiFi 6 speeds at both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

The router of the plan has one 10G Ethernet port, but it is not specified whether it supports a RJ45 or the optical SFP+ connection. If the router ends up being RJ45-friendly, then you are good to go but if it ends up supporting SFP+ connection then you will need other devices to get the speed.

When will it be available nationwide?

The new plan, which will cost $40 more than the standard 1 Gbps internet speed, is set to be available nationwide starting 2021, according to The Verge.

The 2 Gbps plan is the first major product launch from Google Fiber since the company started removing older products in order to focus on new and fast internet services.

In December 2019, Google Fiber stopped offering around 100 Mbps internet to new subscribers. Earlier this year, the company introduced its TV package plan. Google Fiber wanted to create their own streaming service as it can help in advertising and selling their new internet speed.

With the new 2 Gbps connection, subscribers of Google Fiber will be able to enjoy high-speed internet connection on all of their latest devices and will no longer have to wait for minutes or hours to download new games or stream new movies.
